My Project Experience

I am feeling so excited to tell all of you that I have completed my project in the pharmaceutical company. My project is the Development and Characterization of tobramycin inhalation solution to treat patients with cystic fibrosis. This project took around seven months to complete successfully. I am obliged to the company which granted me this prospect to work on the project. I would like to share the thought process which I experienced while doing work on this project. To be honest, it was quite challenging for me because I never had been in a pharma company and did not have any idea how to start. On the first day, I was feeling a bit restless because everything was new to me. I was thinking that how am I collaborate with the pharma staff. But I never knew it became my destiny. I just read in books like pharmaceutical companies are very specified. Even staff in the pharmaceutical companies are very attentive to their work and too talented. I started to settle myself in that place because their side staff are too good and quite helpful nature. By the way, I didn’t want to share my comfort zone by the blog but I just wanted to share my feelings with u which I experienced during working.

Let’s come to a project like how did I choose it. As I know very well all of you are going to burst into laughter after reading my facts to select this project. The Head of the department offered me several projects but he also informed me there are some other projects as well on which are the company’s staff working too hard but still did not achieve desirable outcomes. Projects were inhalation solutions, amino acid injection and Smoff lipid injectable emulsion. These products are highly demanding in domestic markets. I got confused and unable to pick the best one. So, I decided that initially, I will check the market share of each product and growth as future prospects. I used SWOT analysis, PESTLE Analysis, VRIO analysis etc. It seems like I am the project manager who just looking for a profit through the project😆. On a serious note, I did not have such planning😅. My aim was to pick the right project so that I can say to the interviewer like I did work on the best one and my experience on the project can bring multiple opportunities for the company. I know it is damn funny but it was my thought process. I found out that nebulizer is a new technique on which pharma companies are putting more effort to boom up this market segment. This market size of the global nebulizer market is projected to reach around 8.1% by 2027. It was quite impressive data which I got while searching on google. So, I decided that I will work on this project only. However, everyone in the pharma company was saying that it is a quite complicated project. You will not able to understand the examiner about the formulation and processes. But I didn’t pay more attention to them.

I just contact the person who was working on this project for the past six months. He said to me read some articles first and procedures like how to conduct trial planning. I was too excited so I read and understood the disease i.e. cystic fibrosis for which this formulation is going to use. Cystic fibrosis is a hereditary disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. In this disease, the body itself produces thick and sticky mucus and clog the lungs and obstruct the pancreases. Thus, It can be life-threatening or many children’s can die before reaching elementary school.

After completing this task. I targeted the API and its bacterial activity. I gathered information related to API like Tobramycin is an antibiotic that belongs to broad-spectrum antibiotics. The majority of the antibiotics in the class including API  are bactericidal. The availability of API is quite good.

planning for the trials was the next objective of me. So, I contacted to project holder about how many trials are important to complete any project. He said to me like you can take the number of trials but our aim is not be taken trials only we have to analyse the results of each trial then you can say you are proceeding in the right direction. So, I decided to understand the depth of the trials and project. I read the number of articles and find out the parameters through which we can decide like we are on the right path.

I took three trials as per my research like the first trial was optimizing the concentration of NaCl to obtain desirable osmolality. The second trial was to charge first after optimized formulation with/without nitrogen purging. The third trial was to optimize temperature regarding manufacturing and stability of the formulation.

I often time got failed mean did not achieve results as per our measurement. But later on, finally, we achieved results.

The next challenge was characterization study which was quite complicated for us. Characterization means we have to analyze and characterize each parameter of the final formulation. In simple words, we have to check the prepared formulation and the device through which the patient will administer the drug. Droplet size uniformity delivered dose uniformity test, aerodynamic particle size distribution etc. were the characterization tests.

Trust me guys, there were too large terms that were passing beyond my mind😁. Equipment’s for these tests were more complicated.

The breathing simulator was the equipment that act as a dual lung simulator by which understand different breathing profiles through different users. This equipment is used to measure delivered dose uniformity for the nebulizer with the mouthpiece.

Next Generation Instrumentation is another equipment that has seven stages and each stage collect and estimates aerodynamic particle size between 0.24 to 11.7 micrometres.

I know you all are thinking that what was that which I mentioned previously like trials. Honestly. The same thought process was going in my mind like what was that which I performed in the last four months. Again, I started to read about machines functioning because without understanding the theoretical aspects of these machines I can not understand how to perform aligned tests. However, characterization tests were quite difficult for me because it was a new project in the company so, none have too much acknowledgement about these machines. we can understand its working but unable to describe to others how to use it and perform. One thing was good for me like everyone was saying to me, you captured a good opportunity because most of the companies do not have such equipment’s but you are getting here. Such gossips were bringing relief to me. By and by, I started to work on each apparatus by taking help from the ADL department and learning how to get trigger points. Thus, I focused on characterization tests and finally achieved them. I was damn enthusiastic on that day when I received the overall results of the characterization tests. Meanwhile these tests, I achieved desirable stability results.

My experience was quite awesome and too knowledgeable. I did not know how did I pass seven months on this project. It was epic for me.

A warmed thanks to everyone who supported me in this project and Aculife Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. company which offers me an opportunity to work as an intern in their company. Thanks to all of you as well to read my whole journey which I experienced while completing my project.

Stay Safe! Stay Happy!

Keep smiling always because it is a valuable gift for everyone!✌

Tada for now!😊😊😊
